Sharing Our Learning . . . Year 5 Photo Gallery

As part of our World Book Day we looked at the author M G Leonard. We read extracts from his books and did work based on these.

As part of our Science Day celebrations we did lots of experiments that had a theme of time. We made sun dials and used a pendulum to see how time could be measured.

Year 5 have enjoyed dressing up as our favourite characters for World Book Day 2024. We have already discussed the books our characters come from, their authors, the plot and recommended them to our peers

Year 5 were lucky enough to head to Leicester's Space Centre to learn about the history of space travel, planets and stars.

We have been creating stop motion animations as part of our Topic, Urban Influence.

This half term, Year 5 have been enjoying their dance lessons. Over the last two weeks, Webber 5 have been exploring shapes, turns and jumps and creating dance sequences, varying their movements through different time counts, levels and speeds.

Year 5 enjoyed Number Day, where they used practical resources to carry out an investigation.

On Wednesday, Year 5 enjoyed a virtual author workshop from Natasha Hastings. She shared her wonderful ideas from her historical novel: The Miraculous Sweetmakers: The Frost Fair, which was set on the frozen river Thames during The Great Frost of 1963 in London. Natasha took us on an imaginative and magical journey through the different stalls, merchants and products of the Frost Fair. The children thoroughly enjoyed influencing elements of the story along the way and discovering interesting historical facts from the time. I think you can see from the photos, that the children had a great time and were inspired to write their own stories by Natasha’s workshop!

Year 5 have really enjoyed making a healthy stuffed Greek pitta in their DT cooking and nutrition lessons. They tasted Greek foods, prepared different food types, using cutting techniques such as slicing and chopping and finally combined their chosen ingredients to make their Greek pitta masterpiece! Their favourite part was tasting their Greek pitta which were enjoyed by all!

Year 5 have been using their ‘collaborative’ skills to find features of argument texts in English and even used crayons to create a key.

As part of our Science topic about Forces, we made catapults then tested them out.

Webber 5 have been enjoying their guitar lessons.

In Science, Year 5 have been investigating the effects different surfaces have on a travelling vehicle as part of their Forces unit. We found that the surfaces with more friction resulted in the vehicles travelling slower.

Before we could make our Greek Pittas, we tasted the different elements to see which foods we would like and which we would omit from our creation.

We made Christmas cards, using different art techniques we have used.

We have enjoyed learning in Maths lessons skills for our future lives. We learnt the skills to design our own theme parks.

Year 5 have been learning to be safe on their bicycles when on the road, learning how to signal and manouvre.

Webber have responded to descriptions within the text, Skellig, by using body actions and facial gestures to convey a character’s feelings. Can you guess how the character was feeling?

Some children from Year 5 attended a dodgeball tournament. They behaved impeccably and showed values of care and respect for their opponents.

In Science, we have been enjoying learning about forces and created a parachute to investigate air resistance.

Our new novel, Skellig has us gripped already! We have been enjoying exploring the different characters.

As part of our new topic, we took part in our Engage day to immerse us in Greek life.

As part of Black History Month, we learnt about famous black women and created some tracing paper fact files about them.

Our Health Heroes did a fabulous job of collecting the data for Walk to School Week.

Year 5 visited a Sikh temple, known as a Gurdwara. They learnt lots about the building and the hospitality of followers of the Sikh faith.

During History, we created a timeline about the Viking era.

In Science, we have been investigating materials and their properties.

As part of our Express event, we dressed up as Vikings and made Viking brooches.

Year 5 have been developing their defending skills in football this week by intercepting and passing with accuracy.

Year 5 have been enjoying hot seating to develop their ideas for writing.

Year 5 have been enjoying exploring their new book by Frank Cottrell-Boyce called ‘Cosmic’. They have been discussing different features of the text.
