We had a special author event with Sophy Henn, the author of the Happy Hills series of books. We listened to the story and had a go at drawing our own characters.

In reading skills, we have been reading a story called Rollercoaster. It has taught us to be resilient and brave.

In computing, we are using our coding skills to create a sequence using a timer.

This half term, we are learning to play Golf for the Tri-golf tournament. We had a coach come in to teach us putting.

Science Day was AWESOME! We took part in a lot of fun experiments and activities. We created a rainbow using felt tip pens, experimented with which fruits would stop jelly setting and created our own bubble paintings.

On World Book day, we found out about the author Joe-Tod Stanton. He creates graphic novels with a historical theme. We read Arthur and the Golden Rope, A Mouse called Julian, The Comet and Leo and the Gorgon's Curse. We created our own mythical beasts, designed our perfect house and our own book covers.

In PE, we used our balancing and travelling skills on the equipment.

In art this half term, we have been making dragon eyes out of clay. We explored different designs, sketched a plan of what we wanted to do and then made them out of clay. We painted them and had an art gallery for the year 1 children.

We went on a trip to the Black Country Museum. We had a 1950's lesson at the school, explored the old fashioned toys and discovered what the houses of the past were really like.

On NSPCC Number Day, we used tape measures and measured each other in centimetres. We had to solve mental maths problems to crack the secret code as well!

In Science, we have been finding out about the different food groups and what makes a balanced diet. We sorted the different foods into their food groups. Which food groups do you know?

As part of Mental Health Awareness week, we learnt how to do Tai Chi to help us relax.

Our Maths topic this week was money. We have been learning to recognise and sort the coins. Then we made the same amount in different ways.

As part of our engage day for our 'Best of Britain' topic, we looked at toys and schools and how they have changed in living memory. We enjoyed playing with the toys from the 1950's. Which toy would you like to play with?

We are creating Dragon eyes this half term, with the work of Marco Martalar as our inspiration. We spent some time exploring different techniques we can use in our finished sculptures.

In RE this half term, we have been finding out about the nativity, the meaning behind the story and what it means to Christians. To enhance our learning, we visited Elmdon Church to find out more about the first Christmas and how it is celebrated in church.

To express our learning from this half term’s topic Indian Spice, we organised pictures depending on whether they were from India or the United Kingdom. We thought about the main similarities and differences between the two countries and shared what we have learned about both. We have also been learning about Bhangra dancing in PE and performed our dance to year 1.

In our DT this half term, we have been finding out about Indian dips and how to make them. We tasted the dips and have written our own recipes. We learnt lots of new skills - chopping, slicing, peeling and mix. After preparing our dip, we tasted our dip and evaluated them.

We have created our own acrostic poems about our Power of Reading book, Rapunzel. We used our best handwriting when we published them. Can you spot where we have used alliteration?

We have been performing Acrostic poems to each other. What do you think we did well?

We enjoy changing our books at the school library and sharing the books we have chosen with a friend.

We have been finding out about the nativity in our RE lessons. We used role play to explore and understand the Christmas story and its importance to Christians.

We have been learning about a healthy, balanced diet in Design and Technology. We found out what the food groupa were and how each one is good for our bodies.

We had great fun on our Engage day for our 'Indian Spice' topic. We researched India and found out about its language, religion and cuisine. We also researched Rangoli patterns and created our own usng chalk as our medium. We then worked in groups to create giant Rangoli patterns on the playground. Which do you like?

On Black History Day, we researched Aretha Franklin and her music. We created a fact sheet in the shape of a vinyl record.

In Science, we have been learning about the materials that are used to make a wheel, and how this has changed over time. We talked about the man who invented pneumatic air tyres and why these are effective.

In English, we worked together in groups to publish factfiles with information about the appearance, diet, habitat and life cycle of emperor penguins.

In DT, we created Fire Engines with an axel and wheels. We used the saws to cut the axels.

In Music, we have been learning the song 'In my Hands, In my feet, In my heart'. We sand it in rounds and added actions to enhance the performance.

In Maths, we have been using reknereks to help practise our number bonds to 10 and 20.

We have been practising balancing on one leg at a time. We challenged ourselves to balance on one leg in different ways whilst balancing a bean bag on our heads and on our feet or by closing our eyes.

In DT, we made mock ups of wheel and axle mechanisms using paper and art straws to show what the mechanism of our fire engines is going to look like. We made sure the pieces were put together so the vehicle can move.

In Science, we have been finding out about materials and their properties. We have designed a uniform to keep a fireman safe and dry.

In History, we looked at different sources and what they show us. We used the QR codes to research on the internet, looked at pictures painted at the time and newspapers and diaries written by people living during the Great Fire. Which sources do you think give us the best information?

In PSHE, we have been thinking about how we can take responsibility at home and at school. We looked at how others take responsibility.

In Music, we have been using glockenspiels to play a song. We are learning how to find the notes we need and how to play them in time with the music and each other.

In Computing, we found out about algirthyms and how to write a set of instructions for the beebots to follow.

In Science, we have been learning about the suitability of different materials for a certain object. We investigated the best material for a spoon.

In English, we created a story map of our story, Man on the moon. We worked with a partner to retell the story and act it out.

For our FIRE! FIRE! Topic Engage Day, we dressed up and travelled back in time to 1666. We spent the morning creating collages of the Great Fire of London. In the afternoon, we used pastels and crayons to create a background and a silhouette.
