‘Growing and learning together to be the best we can be’

Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

Your teacher will continue to fill this page with exciting class news, pictures of things we’ve done and more.

Do you have any ideas for this page? Why not let your Teacher know!

We have many exciting topics we will be studying this year. These include The Romans, Worlds Kitchen, Reign over Us, Crime and Punishment, Britain from the Air and The Great War.

Staff
In Year 4 the teachers are Mrs Adams, Mr Martindale, Miss Williams and Mrs King.  The Year 4 staff believe that education should be fun for all and sufficiently challenging so that everyone can make progress.

PE
The children have outdoor PE on a Tuesday and indoor PE on a Thursday. PE kits should be in school every day.

Curriculum
Over the year we have 6 main learning themes:
Roman Rule – A study of the Romans and what they have done for us.
World’s Kitchen – A study of where our food comes from and how it makes its way to our plates.
Reign Over Us – A study of Tudor monarchs, in particular Henry VIII.
Britain From the Air – We take a bird’s eye view of Britain and create our own maps.
Crime and Punishment – A look at crime throughout history and how punishments for crimes have changed over time.

The Great War - A study of the key events that triggered the start of the First World War.

Homework
Children are issued with homework every Thursday. The homework will consist of Maths and English and will be due in on the following Monday. We will also send home projects linked to our topics for children to complete over a longer period.
Reading books will be changed at least once a week. Children’s reading should be recorded in their reading diary and an adult should sign to confirm that a book has been completed.
Spellings will be given out every Friday and the children will be tested on these on the following Friday. The spellings will link to the National Curriculum expectations for Year 4. Spellings will be differentiated to suit the ability of your child.

Thematic Curriculum
We have tried hard to link subjects, where possible, to our main topic so that children gain a better understanding of the topic they are studying and also see the links between different subjects.
