Sharing Our Learning . . . Nursery Photo Gallery

We have been enjoying our learning in Nursery this week! We have been showing the same number of objects to match the numeral. We have also been comparing quantities using the language of ‘more than’ and ‘fewer than’.

Eid Day Celebration – On Tuesday 9th April we celebrated an Eid Day in Nursery. We learnt all about Eid and how Muslims celebrate Eid. Mrs Shabir shared her Eid photos from last year and what she does for Eid with her family. We also had the opportunity to dress up in traditional outfits and use real life objects such as prayer mats, hijabs and prayer hats to help us role play praying. We had so much fun learning about a different festival!

We have been enjoying our learning in Nursery this week! We have used tools with increasing control when decorating our Easter crafts, and we constructed with a purpose in mind when using the Mag-Hub construction kit.

We had a fabulous World Book Day in Nursery. We enjoyed listening to stories and learning about the author Catherine Rayner.

We have enjoyed challenging ourselves in Nursery this week! In Literacy we have been trying to recognise words that begin with the same initial sound. We have sorted the pictures according to those beginning with the ‘m’ or the ‘s’ sound. In Maths we have been trying to link numerals to the amount. We have been counting how many objects and finding the corresponding numeral on the number fan.

In Nursery this week we have been working hard to recognise numbers and matching amounts to the correct numerals. We have also been learning about how to keep our bodies healthy, we have been exploring non-fiction books about healthy eating and practising different exercises we can do.

We have been really busy in Nursery this week! We have been drawing with increasing complexity and detail, using mirrors to capture the details in our faces. We have been joining different materials and exploring textures in the junk-modelling and creative areas. We have enhanced our own small world play by adding resources of our choice to develop our storylines further, and we have practised using the scissors to do careful snipping.

In Nursery this week we have been learning all about Chinese New Year. We have watched videos and learnt through non-fiction books how people celebrate and the story behind why each year is named after a different animal. We have been trying to copy Chinese writing, counting and celebrating in the home corner practising how to use chop sticks.

We have really enjoyed our learning in Nursery this week! We have been exploring collections of objects with similar and different properties. We were able to recognise and sort objects that were made out of wood, plastic and metal.

It has been a busy first week back in Nursery. We have been excited to return to school after our two week Christmas break. We have enjoyed sharing what we did during our half term holidays with our friends. Our topic for this half term is ‘Opposites’ we have been learning what that means and examples of different opposite words. We have also been practising to sing some of our favourite nursery rhymes, threading beads onto a string and counting objects reliably.

Christmas has landed in Nursery, and we have thoroughly enjoyed our learning this week! We have been mark-making using Christmas cards and envelopes and decorating Winter jumpers. We have been pretending to serve hot chocolate and marshmallows in the Valley café and used size language to describe the size of the baubles when decorating the Christmas tree.

This week in Nursery we continued working hard learning about 2D and 3D shapes, we named and described the shapes using words such as sides, corners, straight, flat and curved. We had fun asking our friends to name the shapes as well. Outside we enhanced the climbing frames by adding the wooden planks for balancing. We had to climb and balance across the plank carefully.

We love stories in Nursery. It was very exciting to come back to school in the dark to enjoy a hot chocolate and a bedtime story with our teachers and friends.

We have been enjoying our learning in Nursery this week! During our free flow time outside, we have been focussing on some physical development skills. We have been practicing to momentarily stand on one leg, and to climb and walk along equipment, whilst demonstrating good balance.

We have enjoyed our learning in Nursery! We have launched our new topic; Our Community and its People, and on Tuesday we dressed up as the people who help us as part of our Topic Engage Day. This week we have been showing a keen interest in different occupations. We talked about the roles and responsibilities of the occupations that we were dressed up as, and talked about jobs that our parents do.

It has been a busy week in Nursery! We have been continuing our work on repeated patterns, focusing on listening to a variety of environmental sounds, joining in with dancing and group ring games and using resources around us in our play. We used our imagination throughout our play, using an object to represent something else even though they are not similar. We made houses, modes of transport such as cars, police cars, ambulances and trucks. We also learnt the names of some musical instruments and explored what sounds that they made.

We have been enjoying our learning in Nursery this week! We worked in a group to play the ‘pairs’ game; to find the matching patterns. We were focussing on using the mathematical language of stripy, spotty, wavy, spiral and zig-zag to describe. We also used gardening equipment safely in order to turn over the soil in our nature area. We are getting it ready to plant some Spring flowering bulbs!

Lots of exciting learning has taken place in Nursery this week! Here are some photographs of us enjoying our learning outside. We have been noticing the Autumnal changes in our immediate environment, singing songs about the leaves falling, and reading fiction and non-fiction books about Autumn.

We have been enjoying our learning in Nursery this week! We explored patterns and learned how to extend and create patterns with objects and colours. We used a variety of objects including Duplo bricks, lolly sticks and counters to make our own patterns that continue to be the same all the way along. When the teachers made a mistake in the patterns that they made, we were able to notice and correct the error.

This week we have been focussing on thinking carefully about what we draw before we start drawing. We looked at ourselves in a mirror carefully and drew ourselves, we thought about the shapes we draw for our face shape, eyes, mouth etc. We discussed what features we have on our face and how many of them we have for example two eyes but only one nose.

This week in Nursery we have been learning how to use and take care of the resources in the different areas that we have in the classrooms. We learnt how to take care of the reading area and the rules for using that area. Some of us also had a good go at recognising numbers to 5 and counting out the correct number of bears to match the numeral.

This week in Nursery we have been incredibly brave and have settled into our daily routines. We have been continuing to explore the indoor and outdoor environment, making friends and trying to be more independent in our play.

We enjoyed our first few days at Valley Nursery! We have been exploring the indoor and outdoor environment, making new friends and becoming more confident. We are beginning to learn the routines of the school day and we are settling well.
