Sharing Our Learning . . . Year 3 Photo Gallery

Hockney 3 all had a great time dressing up for World Book Day! We read, 'The Boy Who Grew Dragons' by Andy Shepherd. As part of our learning around this, we considered what it would be like to have a dragon as a pet (we all agreed that it could be fun but a little dangerous!), and then we designed our own dragons. We had great fun!

We researched the events that occurred during the Battle of Bosworth and reenacted this event in the playground. There were three armies, the Tudor army, King Richard’s army and Lord Stanley’s army.

In PE, we worked with our partner to complete a limb race. This was great FUN!

As part of our English lessons, we have been reading the ‘Pugs of the Frozen North.’ Our task was to create a non-chronological report about the Arctic. We have been researching lots of facts and information on the Arctic including the location, climate and types of animals that live there.

Lowry have begun learning about the Arctic this week. The children enjoyed relaying their newly learned facts about the animals in their PE lesson. After jogging and brisk walking to bring our heart rate up, we froze in the shape of an Arctic animal. Can you tell which we chose? We then worked on our balancing skills in partners, walking in straight lines being careful not to look down. Not as easy as we first thought!

In our Maths lessons, we were given a budget to equip a classroom. The children had to use their £400 to buy what they think they needed for their own classroom. They then shared their work with the rest of the class in a Dragon’s Den style presentation and the children voted on which classroom they would choose.

Poetry was brought to life in Year 3. Through the magic of the internet, we were able to join in with a live lesson in how to write poems with Joshua Seigal. He brought the magic of poetry to life for us in an interactive digital workshop. We even managed to pen a few clever poems ourselves!

It was fabulous to be able to share stories with the children as part of our Twighlight Tales event. The children enjoyed their hot chocolate and biscuits and it was lovely to hear the children talk so enthusiastically about the books that were read to them.

Year 3 launched their new topic, the Bronze Age. They explored different aspects of the Bronze Age and compared a few differences between the Stone Age and how the people created Bronze. They thought of questions that they would like to find answers for over the coming weeks.

In our English work, we have made our own animals so that we can write about them and persuade the Gods from our book Mouse, Bird, Snake, Wolf by David Almond to create them for us.

During our Engage day, we looked at a timeline of events in Stone Age times and looked at some of the key events that took place.

In our RE work, we have been studying Hinduism and have been making our own rangoli patterns.

In our PE lesson, we practised balancing, throwing and catching. We then practised tapping a beach ball and challenged ourselves by walking on a straight line.

In English, we have been learning about writing instructions. We read a set of instructions on how to make a palm tree and then followed these instructions to create our own ones. This was great fun and we enjoyed sharing our designs with the rest of the class!
