Sharing Our Learning...Year 3 Photo Gallery

We had a fantastic time at our Commonwealth Games Sports Day. We had lots of sports events, which are all part of the Commonwealth Games in 2022. Basketball, netball, hockey, sprinting, javelin, long jump and cricket were all included and were great fun. We had to show lots of resilience, perseverance and teamwork during the day.

WE had a mystery to solve! Spots have been appearing around school and nobody knows why! We have written newspaper articles to tell others about this situation. We hope you enjoy them.

We have had a super exciting Express Day for our Tudor topic! From building our own Tudor House from cereal boxes, to trying to persuade Year 4 Children to choose who was the most intolerant Tudor Monarch. We even got to dress up in fantastic Tudor costumes. Thank you parents and guardians for all your help with this.

Look at our fabulous writing from Summer Term 1!

We have been experimenting with magnets in Science. We have been testing different types of magnets and their strength. We all had fun collaborating and working in teams to find results and reach conclusions.

In English, we were hot-seating as the old man from the story 'Tin Forest'. We enjoyed asking each other questions and answering them in role.

On Science Day, we created aliens, using our knowledge of what living things need to survive. We also created eco-friendly burgers, looking at how far each food item travelled.

We have been using letter tiles to practise our spellings.

In Science, we have been investigating friction.

In Maths, we have been finding out about perimeter

We really enjoy beginning our day with Activate!

WOW day - We had a fantastic Wow Day on Tuesday where we learned about the War of the Roses culminating in the death of Richard III and the crowning of Henry VII at the Battle of Bosworth Field. In the afternoon, we created a class Tudor Timeline using different media to create a representation of each piece of the timeline.

To celebrate and share our learning in the Out of Africa topic, we had a art gallery and year 4 were all invited!

We did a poetry performance this morning. The poetry was based on our PoR text 'Pugs of the Frozen North'. The children created their own type of snow thinking about language choices (personification, alliteration, expanded noun phrases and similes).

In Art and Design, we have designed and made African drums.

We have been thinking about how we sometimes face challenges in order to achieve a dream or goal. We were given the challenge of designing a banana car. We discussed how they worked together as a team, and how decisions were made and carried out. We also had to ascertain what skills were needed in order to complete the task

In PSHE, we have designed a garden for people who face a particular challenge. (E.g visually impaired people, disabled people who use a wheelchair or frame, people who are hard of hearing, people who are in hospital and need an outdoor space, children who live in a place with no safe green spaces, elderly people who can’t bend down etc).

In Maths, we have been adding and subtracting money and giving change in Maths.

In art we have produced a collaborative installation, using recycled materials from home, inspired by the Ghanaian artist El Anatsui.

We have had a 'Kraken' time in lessons this week! We have been drawing, labelling and describing an image, from a description of a kraken, from our Power of reading text.

Our topic this half term is ‘Light’. We had the opportunity to design a book bag that would be suitable to use when it gets dark. We thought about the materials to use and the use of reflective strips.

We have really been enjoying our text ‘Pugs of the Frozen North’. We researched pugs and created a non-chronological report. We thought about the title, sub-headings and fun facts.

We created a collaborative piece of art for our ‘Out of Africa topic’. I’m sure you will agree it looks phenomenal.

We have been busy learning about the present perfect tense in English! We have also been busy learning about the Ancient African Empire of Benin and the goods which they traded throughout the world around the 1200's to 1400's. In computing, we have learnt about spreadsheets using the Ipads.

Spring Term 1 WOW day - Out of Africa

We thoroughly enjoyed our WOW day. We learnt some African Dance in the hall, researched The Benin Empire using Ipads and had an arty afternoon making African animal masks

We thoroughly enjoyed designing a new school in real life Maths on Friday. We were challenged to cost the furniture, technology and equipment needed and to stick within a budget. Then we had to draw and label a plan of the classroom. We had to collaborate to create our new school of classrooms.

In English, we have been using our ideas for similes and personification in our planning of a setting description for a storm.

In computing, we have enjoyed using ipads to mind map uses of the internet using the 2connect program.

In PE, we have been learning to travel along the bench in different ways.

Our wow day was based around sailboats. We looked at different parts of a boat and then used different resources to make boats including nets of 3D shapes and origami. We also used vegetables to make vehicles.

To finish our Rocks, Relics and Rumbles topic, we have created Stone Age round houses.

We have created Druid crowns using natural materials

We have been using the iPads to do our coding this week.

Topic Wow Day Stone Age -we dressed up and had a super day acting as though they were in the Neolithic Stone Age. We then used their design skills using clay to create a model of Stonehenge.

In maths we were using base 10 to represent 3-digit numbers on a place value chart using our whiteboards to show the value of each digit.

Year 3 Poetry reading.
