Valley Primary School

‘Growing and learning together to be the best we can be’

School Council

Our School Council are an important part of school life at Valley Primary School. Each year, our children vote who they would like to represent their class on the school council. The school council plan fund raising events for both the school and their chosen charities. They collect ideas from the children in their class and feedback to the school council on these.

Their main responsibilities include:

  • Collating ideas from each of the classes
  • Making sure children’s voices and opinions throughout the school are listened to and where possible acted upon
  • Organising fund-raising activities
  • Hosting events and greeting important visitors
  • Advertising our events
  • Helping school leaders to make decisions like which teachers will work at our school
  • Meeting with Governors of our school to tell them what the children think

School Council Spring 2 Challenge

Show our Valley value of kindness by making new friends

Our School Council work to celebrate so far...

On NSPCC Number day, we helped to count the sweets in the jar to find the winning children from both sites.

We have been working with the PTFA to improve the Playground Areas on both sites and the Outdoor Area of EYFS. Look out for our new equipment coming soon!

This half term, we have been working very hard to raise money for ‘Save the Children’ and to develop our playground areas at Valley. How much did we raise? Read our the latest edition of the Pupil Leadership News to find out

The School Council have been creating posters and leaflets about their Pupil Leadership Team to share with the rest of the school and encourage other children to apply to be on the School Council for next year. The School Council enjoyed sharing their experiences with the rest of the school. The children asked lots of fantastic questions.

The Refurbishment has begun! Our Playground Refurbishment, using the money raised through the various events this year, started this week with the arrival of the picnic tables we voted to buy. We are sure you will agree they look fabulous! Look out for further improvements over the next few weeks.

We met to discuss our Playground Campaign and how we could raise more funds. The subject of the Ukraine crisis came up and we decided we would prefer to hold a 'Peace Day' raising money for Save the Children's Ukraine Appeal and Comic Relief. We voted to have a non-uniform day and Peace Day activities. This raised £547.60 which was split equally between the two charities.

We followed up our Treat Sale by organising and running a book sale in school. We asked children to bring in their old and unwanted books and were inundated! The children were very excited and enjoyed choosing new books to read. We raised £273 towards our Playground refurbishment. Look out for our new equipment, benches and picnic tables coming soon!

As a team, we worked very hard to organise a ‘Treats for Charity’ sale. We held a school council meeting and decided to raise money for Children in Need and to improve the outdoor playgrounds by purchasing new benches for both the Infant and Junior sites. With great success, we raised a fantastic £386! We have now split this money and have donated half - £193 to Children in Need.
