Sharing Our Learning . . . Year 4 Photo Gallery

On World Book Day in Year 4, we looked at books by Tom Fletcher. The children in Sharman 4 read an extract from The Danger Gang and then drew pictures of the storm that was described.

To finish their Gaudi inspired clay pots, the children in Year 4 used coiling to create the pots they designed. They had to use scoring and water to attach their coils together which some found easier than others! The children are all very proud of their completed work and can't wait to share it with their parents during our Engage event.

To continue with our work on Gaudi, the children designed Gaudi inspired pots which they are looking forward to making. The children had to think about the tools they would need as well as the pattern they would include.

In Year 4, we have been learning about limericks. The children all had a go at writing their own and then learnt them by heart ready to perform to their classmates. They had to focus on the rhyming pattern of a limerick and also perform it with rhythm when reading it aloud. We hope you enjoy them.

In Art, Year 4 have been looking at Gaudi and some of the buildings he designed. We have looked carefully at his use of patterns and tried to recreate some of them on a Gaudi inspired clay pot. We have practised using the technique of coiling to make our pots and we are looking forward to creating our finished products using all of our new found skills.

The children have had great fun completing the 12 days of Fitmas activities over the last few weeks. There have been many smiling faces and much laughter.

In geography, the children worked collaboratively to find out about different climates zones of the world. They then presented their findings to the rest of the class so that all children knew about the different climate zones and where they can be found. The children also researched what affects our climate and the changes that are happening as a result of climate change.

In their Art lesson, the children were investigating three types of watercolour washes – flat, variegated and graded, as they work towards painting their own watercolour in the style of Otto Barth.

It was fabulous to be able to share stories with the children during our Twilight Tales event. The children really enjoyed the stories that were read to them and lots of children now want to read books by the authors they heard.

The children in Year 4 have had a fantastic week of learning. In Science, they created simple electricity circuits, in order to make a light or buzzer work, and then they made a switch which they had to include in their circuit.

The children in Year 4 were tasked with using their maths skills to plan a party. They had to find out the cost of different items and then use their multiplication skills to work out how much they would need of each item to ensure everyone at their party was catered for. They also had to find out the cost of the entertainment. I think the children were shocked just how much some things cost! Finally, they had to present their work to their classmates so that they could decide whose party they would like to attend.

In PE, Newton 4 have been working hard to develop their balancing skills. They had to be creative and balance on differing numbers of body parts.

In Music the children have been learning Abba's Mamma Mia. They have learnt to sing the song and play part of it on the glockenspiels.

In Year 4, the children worked collaboratively to build catapults as part of their Roman topic. The children had to measure accurately, use a hacksaw to cut wood and also use a glue gun to attach each part together. The children were really proud of their finished results and were surpriesed just how far the payload travelled!

The children in Year 4 had a Roman Day whereby a Roman Centurion visited them for the day. They were taught all about what it would have been like to be a part of the Roman army and even got the chance to learn some of the formations that they used. The children really enjoyed showing off their scary roars and faces. We think they would have made formidable soldiers!

As part of their Roman Day, the children also got the chance to handle Roman artefacts and had some brilliant discussions about what each one would have been used for.

The children in Year 4 are enjoying their new Power of Reading text, The Iron Man. They have been emerging themselves in the text through completing drama and hot seating activities.

As part of their Engage Day, the children in Year 4 enjoyed dressing up as Romans and learning about Roman numerals and mosaics.
