APPLYING FOR A SCHOOL PLACE

Applying for a place in Reception

Our School Admissions Policy can be found here.

Children can start Reception in the September after their fourth birthday.

Children with a date of birth between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022 start full-time school in September 2026. 

Children with a date of birth between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023 start full-time school in September 2027. 

Solihull Admissions have confirmed that the applications for Reception will be open in the October prior to starting school in September.   

Even if your child attends Valley Primary School Nursery you will still need to apply for a Reception place.

Any appeals regarding school places will be managed by the Local Authority in line with the admissions policy.

Out of Year Group Admission Applications (Reception Summer Born Children)

If your child is summer born and you would like to make an application for them to begin the following academic year, please contact Valley Primary School office giving full details and including any supporting evidence. This will then be shared with The Elliot Foundation Trust who are the formal Admissions Authority for our school and they will make the formal decision regarding placement.

In-Year Applications (Reception-Year 6)

An application can be made for a place for a child at any time outside the admission round and the child will be admitted where there are places available. An application should be made via the Local Authority by completing the in-year admissions application form which is available from: https://www.solihull.gov.uk/Schools-and-learning/School-admissions.

Applying for a place in Nursery

If your child was born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023 you can apply for 15 hours free Nursery Education in a Solihull school, starting in September 2026. We also offer 30 hours places for entitled families.

Applications for Nursery places are made to schools directly. Please see the Nursery admissions policy for details (Key Information-School Policies-General). The closing date for applications was 12 January 2026, however late applications will be accepted after this if we have places.

Starting School in September 2025 

If your child has been offered a place for September 2025 in Nursery or Reception please see below the slide shows shared during the parents' meeting.

This includes information regarding an induction event prior to the summer break and our phased start, alongside key information about what your child will need when they start school and what their classrooms, learning and curriculum will look like.
