The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011. It is targeted school funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of an identified group of pupils and close the gap as research shows they generally underachieve compared to their peers.
Pupil Premium is paid to schools according to the number of pupils who are or have been:
The amount received for each child varies depending on the category they fit into.

Pupil Premium spending
At Valley Primary School, we aim to strategically use pupil premium funding to achieve our vision and ensure all children achieve excellence and reach their full potential. The school draws from national research alongside analysing individual and group school data to identify barriers to learning and ensure money is used appropriately to work towards overcoming these.
Our most recent school inspection report stated:
“Disadvantaged pupils receive good support as a result of funding made available for them and gaps are now closing rapidly”.
A detailed Pupil Premium Spending report is produced annually and presented to Governors. If you would like a copy of this report, please contact the school office who will be happy to provide one.
Pupil Premium Strategy
At Valley, we consider it vital to plan ahead in how we will use the Pupil Premium money which it receives. We do this through our Pupil Premium Strategy. This is reviewed regularly during the year in order that the individual needs of the children are met.

Catch Up Premium Strategy
Following the period of school closures in 2020, we were awarded an additional Catch Up Premium. This allowed us to diminish gaps in attainment including gaps between disadvantaged pupils and their non-disadvantaged peers.
We focused on providing experiences or initiatives that met the needs of our individual children or groups of children based on ongoing assessments and reviews with the aim of achieving the best possible impact within our individual school circumstances.
