RSHE

RSHE stands for Relationships, Sex and Health Education. RSHE equips children with the knowledge and skills to stay safe, healthy and respectful. Our school uses the Jigsaw programme, which incorporates the key elements of RSHE. We use this age-appropriate spiral curriculum to help children develop emotional literacy, resilience and respect.

Here is how the Jigsaw curriculum brings together PSHE, mindfulness and RSHE

Whole school approach: The curriculum is taught across the whole school with a different 'puzzle' theme taught each half-term, ensuring progress from early years through to year 6.

Safe and Supportive: Mindfulness is woven throughout to help children regulate their emotions, focus on their learning and build mental well-being.

Age Appropriate: Topics such as puberty, changing bodies and relationships are introduced sensitively and in line with government RSHE guidance.

Detailed below is the draft RSHE policy for September 2026 which we are currently consulting on with parents. If you have any feedback that you would like to make, please email your comments to parentliaison@valleyprimary.org.

We have also included the long-term plans for each jigsaw piece.
