Home Learning

Each half term, every year group sends a curriculum information sheet home to parents outlining the key learning which will take place during the half term which enables parents to discuss learning and support at home.

Daily Reading, Spelling Practice and KIRF practice is encouraged at home with weekly checks on these in class.

Topic Home Learning Activities are sent home each half termly term to enable children to access a variety of cross curricular activities linked to their current topic. This gives parental choice as to the amount of home learning completed with children rewarded for completing tasks with House Points. Children can also earn a Merit Certificate or Distinction Certificate for particularly good home learning.

Science Quests are set half termly to give a special Science challenge.

We encourage our children to develop their skills for future citizenship by promoting Life Skills. We have a half termly life skills focus which we encourage our children to actively evidence and consider. Challenges are set to help the children focus on this skill.

Our Feel Good Friday involves a Brain Booster mental health activity and a Curious Challenge thinking skills or outdoor learning activity. These challenges are set for a Friday afternoon as we finish a little earlier on a Friday. We believe looking after your mental health and developing thinking skills are key life skills.

A homework club offered for children who lack equipment or space at home to complete this.

Alongside these specific home learning activities, various online websites and additional learning activities are encouraged via our Learning Zone in the Childrens Section of this website. We use sites such as Times Tables Rock Stars which enables children to compete with other children with a key learning skill. We provide a variety of additional optional activities to complete at home in each area of the curriculum.  We have a rolling enrichment program of activities linked to special events throughout the school year, details of which are sent directly via parent pay or detailed in our whole school newsletter on a Friday. We often run time limited competitions and encourage participation in National initiatives such as the 500 word story cinpetition.

So... our children have plenty of opportunity to further their learning at home and the mixture of key skill compulsory activities and optional activities offers a good balance which allows for different circumstances and interests in further developing certain areas of learning.
